The "Stump Jumpers"

Founded in 1919, the Wayside Fire Company began as a grassroots effort to protect the community from the frequent brush fires that threatened the growing township of New Shrewsbury (now Tinton Falls).

In those early days, our firefighters earned the nickname "Stump Jumpers" for their tireless efforts carrying heavy water tanks on their backs through dense brush and woods, clearing stumps and obstacles to reach the heart of the flames.

Today, the Wayside Fire Company proudly serves as a member of the Tinton Falls Fire District #1, continuing our legacy of professional fire protection for the community.

From our first modest station at the corner of Wayside and Green Grove Roads to our modern facility today, the spirit of the original "Stump Jumpers" remains at the core of everything we do.

    Construction of the single-story firehouse at the original site.

    The borough changes name from New Shrewsbury to Tinton Falls.

    Operating from 2 Volunteer Way with a modern fleet and elite training.
